The rise of pauper’s funerals

An interesting article in the Guardian highlighting that more and more people are now falling into funeral poverty: This is where the deceased has made no provision to pay for their funeral and the family member have to borrow money to fund the funeral.

Under the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984, Local Authorities have a statutory duty to make arrangements for the funeral or cremation of the body of any person who has died or found dead in their borough, where it is established after investigation that there is no¬†alternative course of action. This also known as a Pauper’s Funeral.
